Volume 15   |   2026
Theme: “Unity in Biocultural Diversity: A Different World is Possible”
Deadline: September 29, 2025

In the increasingly troubled and uncertain world we live in today, does it still make any sense to dream of and call for “unity in biocultural diversity” — the idea that has long been Terralingua’s battle cry and motto? Are we completely deluding ourselves that such a thing may ever be possible?

As we prepare to celebrate Terralingua’s 30th anniversary and Langscape Magazine’s 15th anniversary in 2026, tough questions like these are high on our minds. Deep inside, we do believe that a different, bioculturally abundant world is possible. But almost by definition, given the multiplicity involved in the concept of biocultural diversity, we don’t think we can, or should, presume to answer those questions by ourselves alone. We want to hear from you!

  • If we do believe a different world is possible, what are the challenges we must face, the opportunities we must seize?
  • What are the successes (and failures) we must learn from?
  • What are the obstacles we need to overcome?
  • What must change — socially, culturally, politically, economically, and above all intellectually and spiritually — to defend and advance the cause of unity in biocultural diversity at local, regional, and global scales?
  • What do the lessons of the past 30 years tell us about what the future of biocultural diversity might look like?
  • How can the place-based wisdoms and spiritual teachings embedded in the worldviews of the earth’s diverse peoples pave the way to a biocultural resurgence?
  • What can each one of us do, individually and collectively, to take responsibility for what must be done?

We’re eager to hear from diverse people worldwide who wish to share ideas, reflections, and on-the-ground experiences on this theme.
