Itโs that time of year! Submissions are open for Langscape Magazine Vol.ย 15, to be published in 2026.
The theme for this issue is โUnity in Biocultural Diversity: A Different World is Possible.โ
In our increasingly troubled and uncertain world, does it still make any sense to call for โunity in biocultural diversityโ? This idea has long been Terralinguaโs battle cry and motto. But are we completely deluding ourselves that such a thing may ever be possible?
Two Anniversaries: Time for Some Tough Questions!
As we prepare to celebrate Terralinguaโs 30th anniversary and Langscape Magazineโs 15th anniversary in 2026, tough questions like these are high on our minds.
Deep inside, we do believe that a different, bioculturally abundant world is possible. But the concept of biocultural diversity involves a multiplicity of voices. So, almost by definition, we donโt think we can, or should, presume to answer those questions by ourselves alone.
We want to hear from you!
We invite you to consider some or all of the following questions:
- If we do believe a different world is possible, what are the challenges we must face, the opportunities we must seize?
- What are the successes (and failures) we must learn from?
- What are the obstacles we need to overcome?
- What must change โ socially, culturally, politically, economically, and above all intellectually and spiritually โ to defend and advance the cause of unity in biocultural diversity at local, regional, and global scales?
- What do the lessons of the past 30 years tell us about what the future of biocultural diversity might look like?
- How can the place-based wisdoms and spiritual teachings embedded in the worldviews of the earthโs diverse peoples pave the way to a biocultural resurgence?
- What can each one of us do, individually and collectively, to take responsibility for what must be done?
Calling for a Multiplicity of Voices
Weโre eager to hear from diverse people worldwide who wish to share ideas, reflections, and on-the-ground experiences on our current theme. If youโre curious about what weโve already published, check out past Langscape stories.
Proposed stories can be in written, visual, or auditory media โ or any other creative formats you can think of! We welcome narrative writing styles, rather than academic or technical approaches. We publish stories in English, but we will happily translate French or Spanish contributions.

Note: If you are a young Indigenous person, you may contribute to the current theme of Langscape Magazine and/or submit a story to our Indigenous Youth Storytellers Circle (IYSC)!
